Rio Sustentável: Domingues e Pinho supports project that take sustainability theme to children and teenagers

Combining sustainability and education may only generate positive results. Betting on that, Domingues e Pinho Contadores (DPC) supported the Rio Sustentável (Sustainable Rio) project, with a mission to raise environmental awareness in children. The final products of this initiative are the books Corrida da Energia (Energy Race) and Universo da Reciclagem (Recycling Universe), launched on December 2, in a very special event at the headquarters of Social Circo Crescer e Viver (Grow and Live Social Circus, in a free English translation) project, in Cidade Nova, which brought together music, storytelling, toys workshop with recycled materials and even circus presentation. In a playful way, children were encouraged to reflect on environmental issues and to think of recycling as something capable of generating benefits for the whole society.

The books are accompanied by a board game to encourage the boys and girls, 7-14 years old, learn the concepts while have fun.

However, the action is not limited to launch the books. The project is also related to social transformation initiatives. The Circo Crescer e Viver, location chosen for launch, covers to children and young people living in São Carlos slum, who, with circus activities, have the opportunity to see art as a possible path.

The Rio Sustentável material will be also used as pedagogical support for five schools in Maré community connected to the Uerê project, an organization that complements the formal education process of children and young people with cognitive and emotional blockages brought by exposure to violence.

Moreover, DPC, as Rio Sustentável sponsor, received a circulation of books that will be used for further spread the sustainability theme, encouraging reading, and taking care of environment. Part of the copies will be distributed to employees’ children in the target age group of the project and part will be donated to an institution, which assists the children and teenagers in social vulnerability areas.

Rio Sustentável project also had the sponsorship of Rio de Janeiro City Hall and the Municipal Department of Culture.
