Federal Government has adopted measures to combat rising diesel prices resulting from volatility in international markets due to the war in the Middle East
The Federal Executive, through Decree No. 12,875/2026, reduced the PIS/Cofins tax rates on the import and sale of diesel fuel to zero, effective through May 31, 2026.
Provisional Measure No. 1,340/2026 grants an economic subsidy of BRL 0.32 per liter of road diesel, valid through December 31, 2026.
To qualify for the benefit, participants must be licensed by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP) and comply with the selling price conditions set by the agency. The measure also establishes stricter penalties for situations such as abusive price increases, with fines ranging from BRL 50 million to BRL 500 million.
The goal is to offset part of the costs incurred by diesel producers and importers, with a total subsidy cap of BRL 10 billion.
